Day 2 - Pies

Today we made chicken pot pie and fruit pie! We started off the day at the museum campus, and then we headed to the Bissonet campus, where we started preparing the food. The first thing we did was put our aprons on and hairnets to make a video for the incoming new students to say welcome. The first thing we started making was the dough for both pies. We used flour, butter, water and iced water we let that sit in the fridge until we were done preapering the fillings. Meanwhile, the dough was in the fridge, we started making the custard for the fruit pie. We mixed the egg yolks, cornstarch and the sugar together and then added to the boiling milk with vanilla. It created a thick paste as the base of the fruit tart. Then we went ahead and started preapering our chicken pot pie by mixing onion, garlic, mushrooms and carrots together and sauted them, when it was all ready we added evaporated milk, flour, and chicken broth and it became a thick consitency then we added the roasted chicken as the final ingirdent. we rolled the dough out and divided into 2 one for the pie and the other for the chicken pot pie. We put it in the oven with beans over it so it would cook evenly. We later filled both of the pies, and for the chicken pot pie, we added a layer of dough on top. we decorated the fruit pie and it turned out great! Today the food was delicious!
